Orange County psychiatry · 60 Prospect Ave
Finding a psychiatrist in Middletown, NY should not mean a months-long waitlist or a drive down to the city. Our Orange County office at 60 Prospect Avenue brings board-certified psychiatric care, led by Dr. Balveen Singh, to patients from Goshen to Newburgh, with evening and Saturday appointments.

Many people in Orange County have tried to find psychiatric care and been told the practice is not taking new patients, or have been sent to a primary-care doctor for refills instead. Our Middletown office lets patients in the western Hudson Valley see a specialist without crossing the river or heading to Rockland for every visit.
Dr. Balveen Singh, D.O., is a board-certified psychiatrist who directs care at both of our offices. As an osteopathic physician, Dr. Singh pays close attention to how physical health, sleep and stress shape mood. Patients and families who prefer to speak Punjabi, Urdu, French, Gujarati or Hindi can do so with Dr. Singh, as well as English.
Alongside our psychiatrists, Healing Mindz has a team of board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNPs): Diane Sirakovsky, Riddhisha Shah, Melanie MacIntosh and Carolyn Conover. A psychiatric nurse practitioner can evaluate, diagnose, prescribe and adjust medication, and works within the practice's physician-led team, so complex questions are reviewed with a psychiatrist. If you are looking for a psychiatric nurse practitioner in Middletown, NY, ask the front desk which clinicians currently have openings at this office. Therapy with Nadine A. McKenzie, MFT-LP, or Samia Vieux, MA-MFT, may also be available. Profiles are on the team page.
Your first appointment is a psychiatric evaluation lasting roughly 45 to 60 minutes. Check in at the third-floor office. Your clinician will ask about what is bothering you now, how long it has been going on, what you have tried, your medical history and the people and pressures in your life. Short questionnaires about mood, anxiety or attention may be part of it.
You leave with an explanation of what your clinician thinks is going on, a plan you have agreed to, and the date of your next check-in. Prescriptions go electronically to the pharmacy of your choice you choose.
New patients are often seen within the week. Because many Orange County residents commute on Route 17 or the Metro-North Port Jervis line, we keep later hours on Monday and Tuesday (until 7 PM) and open Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM. After the first visit, routine follow-ups can usually be done by secure video, which saves the drive on snowy mornings.
Our Middletown clinicians treat depression, anxiety, adult and adolescent ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD and trauma and PTSD, which is relevant to the many veterans, service members and first responders in Orange County. When depression has not lifted after several medications, we also talk about treatment-resistant depression options.
The Middletown office offers evaluations, medication management, therapy and TMS consultations. TMS treatment itself is delivered only at our New City office in Rockland County. That means you can meet with a clinician here to find out whether TMS therapy fits your situation and get help with insurance authorization, then travel to New City for the sessions.
The drive is about 40 to 45 minutes, typically via Route 17 and the Thruway or the Palisades Parkway. Our TMS for Orange County patients page explains how people plan around a daily course.
Plenty of Middletown patients already have a primary-care doctor at a local practice or a counselor they trust. Psychiatric care works best when it fits around those relationships rather than replacing them. With your consent, we send your primary-care doctor a short summary after the evaluation and when medication changes, and we are glad to talk with your therapist about goals and progress.
For students, we can coordinate with campus counseling services; for veterans who also use VA care, we can keep notes aligned so medication lists stay accurate. If you have been discharged from a hospital stay, bring the discharge papers to your first appointment so we can pick up where the inpatient team left off.
Orange County patients commonly carry MVP, Empire BCBS, Excellus, Medicare, Medicaid or a federal plan such as TRICARE East through Humana Military, and we accept all of them along with Aetna, Cigna and UnitedHealthcare/Optum. Benefits are checked for free before your first appointment. See the full insurance list.
